GRENKE Chess Classic 2017

The Easter holidays are a festive season for German chess fans. This year is no exception, with the GRENKE Chess Classic 2017 being held from 15th to 22nd April.

World Champion Magnus Carlsen, who won the last GRENKE Chess Classic in 2015, will again be competing, ready to defend his title.

Kortchnoi Open 2017

The Kortchnoi Open, organized by the Schachgesellschaft Zurich, is taking place from 13-17th April, parallel to the Kortchnoi Zurich Chess Challenge 2017.

The 7-round Swiss event will have two sections – Main and Master with 20 Grandmasters among 85 participants from 20 countries.

Hikaru Nakamura wins blitz opener in Zurich

The Korchnoi Zurich Chess Challenge 2017 has had its first decisive result: The American Hikaru Nakamura won the Opening Blitz and thus made it very clear that he intends to repeat his success from 2015 and 2016 and therefore become the first player to win the tournament three times in a row.

Asian Youth Chess Championships 2017 – Winners

The 2017 Asian Youth Chess Championship and Asian Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships were held from 1-10th April in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan. The event was organized by the Uzbekistan Chess Federation (UCF), under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF).

FIDE World Chess Championships 2019 – Bids

FIDE Secretariat has published the bids for the World Chess Championships 2019 received by the deadline of 31st March 2017.

The bids were forwarded to the FIDE Events Commission which will decide on the technical sufficiency of the bids received according to the bid regulations and the call for bids published on the FIDE site.

8th International “Terre degli Elimi” Tournament

The 8th International “Terre degli Elimi” Tournament is scheduled to take place from 28th July to 4th August at the Palazzo Sales in Erice, on Sicily, Italy.

10th Karen Asrian Memorial Chess Tournament

The Armenian Chess Federation is organizing an international open chess tournament, dedicated to the memory of GM Karen Asrian, which will take place on June 20-30, 2017, in the prominent resort town of Jermuk.

All interested chess players can participate in the 9-round Swiss tournament. The total prize fund is equivalent to 22,500 US dollars.

17th Bangkok Chess Club Open

The 17th Bangkok Chess Club Open is taking place from 8-16th April in the Regent Cha-am Beach Resort, Petchburi, Thailand.

The event consists of two sections: Open category for all players (9-round Swiss), and Challenger category for players rated below 2100 or unrated (7-round Swiss).

Philadelphia Open 2017

The 11th Annual Philadelphia Open will be held over the Easter weekend from April 12-16, 2017, at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The event has 7 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400 and Under 1100.

The Open Section is a 5-day tournament (April 12-16) with FIDE norms possible. 9-round Swiss with time control 40/2, SD/30, d10.
