Chess Festival “Lviv Tradition 2017″

LvivLviv will host round robin title tournaments for GM, IM, WGM, WIM norms from 21-26th March at the NTON Hotel in Lviv, Ukraine.

Grandmaster Tournament (GM-group), average rating 2401-2475 (former category 7-9 FIDE)
GM, IM, WGM, WIM norms possible
10-12 players – round robin 9-11 rounds, or 6-7 players – double robin 10-12 rounds

Hikaru Nakamura’s trifecta in Tradewise Gibraltar Masters

Hikaru Nakamura won the Tradewise Gibraltar Masters for a third consecutive year after defeating David Antón Guijarro (Spain) in a tense two-game speed playoff.

In the regular part of the tournament Antón Guijarro, Nakamura and Yu Yangyi shared the first place with 8,0/10 points each in the field of 255 players.

Ju Wenjun from China won the top Women’s prize with 7,0 points and takes home £15,000. Full standings below.

Hou Yifan gives away her final round in five moves

Women’s World Champion Hou Yifan from China has apologised for giving away her game against Lalith Babu M R from India in the last round of the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival within five moves.

In an exclusive interview with the Festival press team Hou Yifan tells Tania Sachdev she apologised to chess players, to her fans and those following the Gibraltar Masters.

Moscow Open – Round 4

A little bit less than a half of the distance is over in the main tournament of the RSSU Cup, 2017 Moscow Open – Men’s and Women’s Cup of Russia tournaments. Four participants managed to keep a 100% result in both tournaments.

Dmitry Gordievsky, Semen Lomasov, Boris Grachev (all from Moscow) and Ramil Faizrakhmanov (Kazan) top the table in the men’s competitions. Ramil managed to win over the ranking favorite Sanan Sjugirov (Kazan) in the fourth round. Nine chess players scored 3,5 points.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Hammamet, Tunisia

From 12 to 16 January 2017, a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Hammamet, Tunisia, by the Tunisian Chess Federation, under auspices of FIDE.

The venue of the Seminar was the Atrium Hotel in Hammamet.

The lecturer was IA Bechir MESSAOUDI (TUN), FIDE Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer was IA Wajdi CHOUARI (TUN).

The lectures and the exams were in French language with translation in Arabic and English.
