SPICE Cup 2016

The 2016 SPICE Cup Open, sponsored by Webster University and the Susan Polgar Foundation, is scheduled to take place on 17-22nd October at the Crowne Plaza Clayton Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

The 9-round Swiss tournament is open to the players rated over 2100 FIDE and will provide opportunity for GM/IM norms. Time Control: G/90 + 30 second increment from move 1.

The total prize fund is $15,000 guaranteed.

Tal Memorial continues Chess in Museums project

The 10th Mikhail Tal Memorial will be played in the Museum of Russian Impressionism (Moscow), one of the leading private museums in Russia.

The tournament will be opened on September 25, 2016, and will become the sixth event of the Chess in Museums project.

Avtodor Group of Companies will be a co-organizer of the 10th Tal Memorial together with the Russian Chess Federation.

Abu Dhabi Chess Festival – Round 6 Video

The 23rd Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2016 is taking place from 21-29th August at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the UAE.

After six rounds of play Grandmasters B Adhiban, Yuriy Kuzubov, Alexandr Predke and Dragun Kamil share the lead with 5,0 points each.

Markus Ragger claims the trophy in Vienna Chess Open

The 20th Vienna Chess Open concluded with the victory of the Austrian top player GM Markus Ragger (2686), who was in the same time the top seed of the event.

The local star drew in the last round with GM Evgeny Vorobiov (RUS 2586) and triumphed with 8,0/9 points to earn top prize of 2500 EUR.

IM Volodymyr Vetoshko (UKR 2438) and Vincent Keymer (GER 2348) tied for the second place with 7.5 points, and took silver and bronze medal respectively.

Michael Adams gets wildcard for London Chess Classic 2016

The 10th and last player to join the line-up of the 8th London Chess Classic is none other than England’s number one, Michael Adams.

The Cornishman has been the country’s leading player since 1999 and was once ranked number 4 in the world. Adams has consistently recorded outstanding performances and been a member of the world elite for the better part of 20 years.

The 2016 Dutch Chess Championship NK Schaken is going to take place 22-28 August in Tropentheater, Amsterdam. The championship is divided in two sections, men and women, and both are round robin events.

Jeffery Xiong and Dinara Saduakassova are 2016 World Junior Champions

In the Open section of 2016 World Junior Championship, GM Jeffery Xiong was held to a draw in the final round by Iran’s Masoud Mosadeghpour. Xiong had dominated the competition throughout and already won the event with a round to spare.

At 16, the American is amongst the youngest World Junior Champions in chess history.
