Armenian Grandmaster Samvel Ter-Sahakyan took the winner’s trophy in the 2017 Karpos Open after concluding the event with 7,5/9 points and best tie-break score.

The power struggle that started in FIDE in the end of March reached a temporary stalemate. At the extraordinary meeting of the Presidential Board meeting in Athens, it was decided that Kirsan Ilymzhinov will stay President of FIDE until the end of 2018.

Everything is set for the 18th European Individual Women’s Chess Championship 2017, which will take place in Riga, Latvia, from 10th to 23rd April in the Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel.

The event will gather the best female chess players from Europe to compete for this prestigious title and the rich prize fund of 75.000 EUR.

From 25 to 29 March 2017 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Sharjah, UAE, by the UAE Chess Federation, in cooperation with Dubai Leader Qualification Centre, and under the auspices of FIDE.

The seminar was held in the Sharjah Chess Club.

The Lecturer was IA/IO Mahdi Abdulrahim (UAE), FIDE Arbiters’ Commission Councilor and FIDE Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer was IA Abdulla Mohamed (SOM).

A FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized from 12 to 14 May 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by the Malaysian Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Asian Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The permanent mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations organized a simultaneous exhibition with former world chess champion Anatoly Karpov.
