ASEAN+ Age-Group Championships – Round 8 Report

After eight rounds of hard battle the ASEAN+ Age-Groups Championships is heading to a tense and decisive final day with everything to play for in most categories despite there being many dominant players.

In Open U-20, FM Bui Trong Hao from Vietnam and long time leader FM Tin Jingyao from Singapore are neck to neck with 6/8 each with IM Garcia Jan Emmanuel from the Philippines half a point behind on 5.5/8.

Report of ASEAN Chess Confederation

The meeting of the ASEAN Chess Confederation was held in conjunction with the ASEAN+ Age Group Championships and took place on 13th June 2015 at the Sports & Recreation Centre of the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Delegates were present from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and so of the ten member nations, only Brunei, Laos and Cambodia were able to come.

Judit Polgar new captain of the Hungarian National Men’s Chess Team

The best female player of all times, Judit Polgar, who retired from competitive chess after winning the team silver medal at the 2014 Chess Olympiad, has been appointed as the new captain and head coach for the Hungarian National Men’s Chess Team.

The announcement came from Thomas Seszták, President of the Hungarian Chess Federation, who noted that Polgar’s appointment was approved by unanimous vote.

1st ECU Congress and ECU General Assembly

The European Chess Union announces the official invitation for the 1st ECU Congress and the Annual ECU General Assembly.

The host federation is Montenegro Chess Federation. The official venue will be Castle of King Nikola & Hotel Princess Bar.

International Open Tournament Pula 2015

The 29th International Open Tournament Pula 2015 is taking place 13-20th June at the Hotel Park Plaza Histria in Pula, Croatia.

The 9-round Swiss event is organized by the Chess Club Pula and Croatian Chess Federation. The total prize fund is 7330 EUR.

At the present 222 players from 19 countries are registered to take part in the event. Among them are 8 Grandmasters and 15 International Masters.

Seniors 65 & Seniors 50 at ASEAN+ Age-Group Championships

While there has long been a category for Seniors in the ASEAN+ Age-Group Championships, this year it has been aligned to FIDE competition and is now played as Seniors 65+ and Seniors 50+.

There are seven entries in Seniors 65+ and it is played as a seven round robin or six games with a very welcome bye while there are sixteen entries in Seniors 50+.

19th Voronezh FIDE Open 2015 LIVE!

The 19th Voronezh International Chess Festival 2015 is taking place from 10-20th June at the Voronezh Chess Club, F.Engels str. 34, in Voronezh, Russian Federation.

The FIDE open (Elo < 2200) is a 9-round Swiss tournament with tempo of play 90′/ 40 + 30′ + 30″.

Top seed is Ukrainian player Evgeny Maratkanov (2198).

19th Voronezh Master Open Alekhine Memorial LIVE!

The 19th Voronezh International Chess Festival 2015 is taking place from 10-20th June at the Voronezh Chess Club, F.Engels str. 34, in Voronezh, Russian Federation.

The Master open (Elo > 2200) is a 9-round Swiss tournament, part of ACP Tour 2015, Russia Cup 2015, and it’s valid for FIDE rating and norms.

1st FIDE World Online Women Blitz Championship 2015

The 1st FIDE World Online Women Blitz Championship 2015 is scheduled to start from 18th June on the official FIDE Online platform.

The first stage of the Championship will be completed over eight (8) qualifier tournaments, followed by a semifinal with 64 players, and a final tournament with 10 players.

The winner of the final tournament will be awarded with the prestigious title of FIDE World Online Women Blitz Champion.
