The TV miniseries Rematch is a six-episode psychological thriller dramatizing the historic 1997 chess match between world champion Garry Kasparov (played by Christian Cooke) and IBM’s supercomputer Deep Blue. Produced by ARTE France, Unité, and Federation Studios, it explores the intense man-versus-machine battle that marked the first time a reigning chess champion lost to a computer under tournament conditions (3.5-2.5).

The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships take place June 10-16, 2025, in London, United Kingdom. The World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships are back – with a record-breaking €500,000 prize fund. This is double the prize fund of Dusseldorf, which was €250,000, and more than Kazakhstan, which was €350,000.

The IX Torneio Internacional de Xadrez SESC Caiobá will take place from June 27 to July 6, 2025, at the Hotel SESC Caiobá in Matinhos, Paraná, Brazil. Organized by SESC Paraná and the Centro de Excelência em Xadrez (CEX), the event is considered one of the best chess tournaments in Brazil, expecting around 800 participants from Brazil and approximately 20 countries, mainly from Latin America. It offers R$ 90,000 in total prizes and includes various competitions and activities.

Ding Liren visited the Harrow Hong Kong Scholastic Open Chess Tournament 2025 this Sunday, 11 May In an event organized by the Caissa Chess Club and Harrow International School Hong Kong, former World Chess Champion Ding Liren lit up Hong Kong’s chess scene at the Harrow Hong Kong Scholastic Open Chess Tournament. This inter-school event brought together young talent from Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, creating a vibrant stage for competition and growth.

GM Christopher Yoo has been temporarily suspended by FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission. However, the suspension is not a result of the incident in Saint Louis, rather it is a new case of harassment complaint.

SC Remagen Sinzig is the winner of the German Blitz Team Championship 2025. SC Remagen Sinzig, with Vasyl Ivanchuk on board 1, collected 44 match points from 25 games. The second place is for SG Solingen with 42 match points, who finished with the same points as SF Berlin, but had a higher tiebreak – one more game point than their opponents.
