The 2025 GM/IM Memorial Day Marshall Invitational is taking place May 22-26 in Marshall Chess Club, New York. It consists of three 10 player round robin invitational events with time control 90+30 sec increment for the entire game.

FIDE Ethics Commission has finally acted on the case of GM Christopher Yoo. After losing his game of round 5 from the US Chess Championship, GM Christopher Yoo destroyed his scoresheet, stormed out of the playing hall, “and struck a videographer from behind”.

Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial 2026

Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial 2026 will take place February 20-22, 2026, in Jurmala, Latvia. Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial is part of the Jurmala Chess Festival and consists of a rapid and blitz tournament.

The eldest son of Evgeny Sveshnikov, IM Vladimir Sveshnikov, has already confirmed participation. Among the pre-registered players is also GM Alexei Shirov.
