A new super-tournament for your chess calendar – the Uzchess Cup second edition will be a 10 player round robin with 2726 ELO average (according to the May rating list).

The traditional 21st Delhi International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2025 is taking place 7-14 June in New Delhi, India. The 2700 club member Arjun Erigaisi is listed as the top seeded player in the A tournament, where 57 titled players have already signed up. The 2025 GM/IM Memorial Day Marshall Invitational is taking place May 22-26 in Marshall Chess Club, New York. It consists of three 10 player round robin invitational events with time control 90+30 sec increment for the entire game.

The 1st Sofia Spring Chess Tournament will be held 23-29 May in Sofia, Bulgaria.

GM Christopher Yoo has just been temporarily suspended by FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission (read the full news here) Right before the FIDE EDC decision was published, Christopher Yoo won the Freestyle Friday online event. He finished 1,5 points ahead of Hans Niemann and Vincent Keymer.

FIDE Ethics Commission has finally acted on the case of GM Christopher Yoo. After losing his game of round 5 from the US Chess Championship, GM Christopher Yoo destroyed his scoresheet, stormed out of the playing hall, “and struck a videographer from behind”.

The 2nd International Killer Chess Training, which now is Peter Long Memorial, takes place May 10 – May 16 in Roquetas de Mar, Spain. Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial 2026 will take place February 20-22, 2026, in Jurmala, Latvia. Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial is part of the Jurmala Chess Festival and consists of a rapid and blitz tournament.

The eldest son of Evgeny Sveshnikov, IM Vladimir Sveshnikov, has already confirmed participation. Among the pre-registered players is also GM Alexei Shirov.

One of the strongest female super-tournaments in the world returns in 2025 with the fifth edition of the Cairns Cup! This elite tournament takes place June 10 – June 20 features ten of the best female chess players from around the world as they compete for a $250,000 prize fund, the largest in the event’s history. The Cairns Cup shares its format with other prestigious events like the illustrious Sinquefield Cup — a prestigious ten-player round-robin format of classical chess.
