Big Rook Chess Festival 2025 is taking place 7-12 May in Bangkok, Thailand. The main open is a 9 rounds classical Swiss with GM Darwin Laylo as top seeded.

The Big Rook Chess Festival 2025 contains also a rapid event on May 11, a blitz event on May 10, and multiple youth events.

Alex Yermolinsky needs your help

Legendary American Grandmaster Alex Yermolinsky, “Yermo”, remains hospitalized in Tekirdag, Turkey after undergoing a four-way heart bypass. A second emergency surgery was performed five days later for sternal wound infection and respiratory failure. Compounding his problems, sternal fractures were found during the second surgery. Yermo is being crushed by medical bills which his Medicare is not covering as there is no reciprocal agreement with Turkey.

FIDE World Schools Team Championship 2025 is in USA

Following the resounding success of its inaugural edition in Kazakhstan, the FIDE World Schools Team Championship is back — and it’s set to be bigger and more global than ever before!

The tournament will be played over 8 rounds, in a Swiss format, with each team consisting of four main players, mixed age, one reserve and one non-playing captain. Time control is 45 minutes + 10 seconds per move, with two games per day across four action-packed days.
