Kacper Piorun takes the trophy in Najdorf Memorial

Grandmaster Kacper Piorun emerged clear winner of the Open A of Metlife Najdorf Chess Festival that was held from 8-17th July at the Warsaw Sports and Recreation Centre in Warsaw, Poland.

The Open A, reserved for the players rated above 2200, had 145 participants. Piorun scored 7,0/9 points, leaving a group of eleven players half a point behind, to claim the top prize of 5000 EUR.

The popular weekend tournament, Bergamo Chess Open, has attracted 184 players competing in three elo-sections from 14-16th July.

FIDE World Junior Chess Championships 2017

The FIDE World Junior Chess Championships 2017 (for boys & girls under 20) which will be held in Tarvisio, Italy from November 12th to 26th.

The Championship will be organized and conducted by Accademia Internazionale di Scacchi under the auspices of FIDE and the Italian Chess Federation FSI.

Dortmund Chess 2017 LIVE!

Dortmund Chess 2017 will be an eight player single round robin event that will take place from 15-23rd July. It includes GM Vladimir Kramnik, GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, GM Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu, GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek, GM Dmitry Andreikin, GM Wang Yue, GM Vladimir Fedoseev, and GM Matthias Blubaum.

Radjabov leading Geneva Grand Prix before the last round

Teimour Radjabov retained the lead in the Geneva Grand Prix despite a quick draw against Alexander Riazantsev in the 8th round.

Alexander Grischuk could not catch Radjabov as his game with Shakhryar Mamedyarov was drawn after a lot of excitement. Grischuk held the advantage for the most of the game, but Mamedyarov found a fantastic exchange sacrifice that granted him excellent counterplay.

Ikaros 2017: More players than ever before

182 chess players from 14 countries take part in the 40th edition of Ikaros International Chess Tournament. The Open Aegean Championship “Ikaros” 2017, which is the main event, is held from 9 to 16 July at the Sport Center of Aghios Kirykos at the island of Ikaria.

Almost all of the geographical areas of Greece and Cyprus, as well as 12 foreign countries are represented: Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in New Delhi, India

From 4 to 6 July 2017 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in New Delhi, India, by the Delhi Chess Association, in cooperation with the All India Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The venue of the Seminar was the Park Plaza Hotel in New Delhi.

The Lecturer was IA Prof. R. Anatharam (IND), FIDE Arbiters’ Commission Councillor and FIDE Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer was IA MS Gopakumar (IND).
