The Melbourne Masters, a 9-round GM single round-robin tournament is taking place from December, in Melbourne, Australia.

The venue is non other than the historical Melbourne Chess Club, celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2016, and with the following list of participants, averaging 2443, it will be Category 8 with 6.5/9 required for a GM norm.

IM Roland Berzinsh wins Lithuanan Open Rapid Championship 2015

Lithuania FlagThe Lithuanian Open Rapid Chess Championship 2015 took place from December 12-13, in Panevezys, the fifth largest city in Lithuania.

The event was an 11-round Swiss FIDE rapid chess competition, organized by the Lithuanian Chess Federation. The tempo of play was 15′ + 10″.

27th GM Carlos Torre Repetto Memorial – List of players

Today’s penultimate round saw a lone decisive result, but the players treated us to plenty of fighting chess and set the stage perfectly for tomorrow’s 9th and final round in which a huge amount is at stake.

The winners of the London Chess Classic and Grand Chess Tour will be decided as well as who qualifies for next year’s Tour.

Ivan Bukavshin wins Russian Cup 2015

Ivan Bukavshin wins the Russian Cup 2015 after defeating Dmitry Kokarev  in the finals in Khanty-Mansiysk.

The final games were played over two days, with the first game yesterday ending in a draw; Bukavshin triumphed in just 36 moves in the second game today, winning the finals with 1.5 points to 0.5.

Chess duel Sevian vs. Grandelius in Swedish TV

Norwegian TV set the standard for TV coverage of chess. The chess TV feber has now reached it’s neighbour – Sweden.

Sweden’s best chess player Nils Grandelius challenges USA’s super talent Sam Sevian in a duel. The match will be broadcasted live on Expressen TV on January 5 at 8.30 PM CET.

Panamerican Schools Chess Championship 2015

The Panamerican Schools Chess Championship 2015 will take place from the 13th of December to the 19th of December in Costa Rica. The venue is the Estadio Nacional in the capital San José.

It will feature youth talent from ten different federations: Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago.

Qatar Masters Open 2015

Qatar Masters Open 2015 is a strong tournament that will take place in Qatar from December 19 to December 30. This is the second edition of the competition; last year, Yu Yangyi won the tournament.
