Andrei Filatov nominated for the post of FIDE Vice-President

The Russian Chess Federation (RCF) is nominating Andrei Filatov, President of the RCF, to the post of Vice-President of FIDE (the World Chess Federation).

The next elections for the FIDE leadership, including the president and vice-presidents, will take place on 11 August 2014 in the Norwegian city of Tromsø during the World Chess Olympiad.

Georgy Agzamov Memorial – Participants

The 8th Tashkent International Open – Memorial of Georgy Agzamov, the first grandmaster of Uzbekistan, will be held on 14-24th May in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The tournament is a 9-round Swiss with the time control 90 min + 30 sec increment from move one. The total prize fund is 20,000 US dollars.

The tournament is organized by the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan.

2nd Cherry Blossom Classic

The 2nd Cherry Blossom Classic is set to take place on 24-26th May at the Mariott Washington Dulles Airport, 45020 Aviation Drive, Sterling VA 22166, Virginia.

The tournament will consist of three sections – Open, Reserve (U2000) and Amateur (U1600).

The playing format is 6-rounds Swiss system: Open Section G/160, d5, FIDE rated; Reserve and Amateur sections 30/100, SD/60, d5.
