The 2022 Chessable Sunway Sitges Chess Festival is taking place from 11-22 December and features two tournaments: Open A and Open B, with the total prize fund of 27.155eur. GM Yu Yangyi is top-seeded at the A tournament, and the field includes GM Hans Niemann, GM Jorden van Foreest, GM Ivan Cheparinov, GM Jules Moussard, GM Andrey Esipenko and a total of 43 grandmasters.

European Rapid Chess Championship 2022 is taking place in Katowice, Poland, from 17-18 December 2022. Open and Women’s sections are merged, with separate prizes for the best ranked female players. The event is played in 11 rounds, swiss system, with the time control: 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment. More than 900 players participate in the event.

The FIDE Council approved yesterday a major reform of the qualification paths to the Candidates Tournament – the event that decides the challenger for the World Championship match.

The 2022 European Blitz Chess Championship was played today in Katowice, Poland, with more than 800 players in the field.

The Malmö Open | Swedish Grand Prix is taking place from 16-18 December. The tournament is part of the Swedish Gran Prix. The first four rounds are played with a time control of 15 minutes for the entire game plus 5-second increment per move starting from move 1.

The 4th Chess Academy Almaty IM is taking place from 16–23 December 2022 in Almaty. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 15 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. It is a 10-player round-robin tournament with participation of Nikolay Averin, Muhammad Khusenkhojaev, Sanzhar Ashirov, Sergei Yudin, Rustam Khusnutdinov, Mark Smirnov, Artur Chibukhchian, Artyom Bogdanov, Artur Gabrielian and Bakhtiyar Askarov.
