The 97th edition of the Argentine Absolute Chess Championship was held from 1st-10th December 2022 in Hotel Monte Claro, San Carlos de Bariloche, Rio Negro. 12 players competed in 11 rounds (round-robin system) for the title of National Chess Champion and the prize fund of 1.000.000 ARS (~5.760eur). The time control was 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.

In an amazing turn of events, when everything seemed to be pointing towards a tiebreak, former Women’s World Chess Champion GM Tan Zhongyi, from China, defeated GM Aleksandra Goryachkina, playing under the FIDE flag, in the fourth and final game of the 2022 Women’s Candidates Pool B.

Pool B of the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament reaches the Final stage with Aleksandra Goryachkina and Tan Zhongyi fighting in the four-game match for the spot in the Women’s Candidates Finals against Lei Tingjie (who qualified from Pool A a month ago).

The Croatian National Chess Championship 2022 took place from November 28 – December 9 at Hotel Pax, Split. It was a 12-player round-robin tournament with a total prize fund of 10.000 euros.

The 3rd edition of the El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament 2022 took place from November 30 to December 8 in Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain, gathering 50 grandmasters, 44 international masters and a total of 175 players fighting for the prize fund of 29.500eur!
