Hans Niemann beats Magnus Carlsen to be in the sole lead of the Sinquefield Cup 2022

In a sensational upset GM Hans Niemann defeated World Champion Magnus Carlsen with the Black pieces in their first ever classical encounter, overtaking the sole lead in the 2022 Sinquefield Cup and crossing 2700 for the first time in his career. In the meantime, Alireza Firouzja won a brilliant game against Levon Aronian, while Wesley So jumped into clear second place thanks to an excellent win over Fabiano Caruana.

The Polish Prime Minister Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki congratulated GM Monika Socko on her triumph in the European Women’s Chess Championship 2022 during the opening ceremony of the Polish Team Chess Championship 2022 (Enea Polish Ekstraliga). Monika Socko clinched the title of European Women’s Individual Chess Champion for the first time in her career. With a score of 8.5/11 points, Socko was the sole Winner of the event.

Sinquefield Cup 2022 – Day 4 LIVE

The ninth annual Sinquefield Cup is also the fifth and final leg of the Grand Chess Tour 2022. Eight Tour players: Wesley So, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Levon Aronian, Fabiano Caruana, Alireza Firouzja, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Leinier Dominguez, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov are joined by wildcards Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann for a classical chess event which will be played in 9 round-robin rounds.

The Julius Baer Challenge was the first event of the Challengers Chess Tour 2022 and it was a 16-player blitz round-robin taking place on chess24 from September 3-4. The event gathered 16 of the world’s top Under 12, 14 and 16 age group players, alongside Under 18 and 20 stars such as Raunak Sadhwani, Jonas Buhl Bjerre, Leon Mendonca and Andrey Esipenko.

GM Aravindh Chithambaram clinches Dubai Chess Open 2022

The 22nd edition of the Dubai Chess Open 2022 took place from 27 August – 5 September at the Dubai Chess & Culture Club. The tournament was played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control 90 minutes for the whole game + 30 seconds of increment per each move, starting from the move one. More than 180 players from 35 countries were fighting for the total prize fund of 50.000$.

BREAKING: Richard Rapport will play for Romania

World No. 13 GM Richard Rapport has officially transferred to Romanian Chess Federation today. The transfer started in late May and concluded today with the Hungarian Chess Federation losing one of its greatest chess geniuses. Together with Richard, his wife WGM Jovana Rapport completed the transfer from Serbian to Romanian Chess Federation earlier in August.

Round 2 of the 2022 Sinquefield Cup saw tournament underdog Hans Niemann score his first win of the event, defeating Shakhriyar Mamedyarov to join the early lead alongside Magnus Carlsen, who drew with Levon Aronian. Meanwhile the 2022 FIDE Candidates winner, Ian Nepomniachtchi bounced back from yesterday’s loss to defeat Alireza Firouzja in fine technical style.
