The 2022 European Individual Women’s Chess Championship concluded yesterday in Prague, Czech Republic. More than 120 players from 28 European federations competed over 11 swiss rounds for the title of European Champion and 9 qualification spots for the next FIDE Women’s World Cup.

The fifth day of Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz was smooth sailing for Alireza Firouzja, who made it to the top of the standings and won the 2022 St Louis Grand Chess Tour with four rounds to spare. Challengers Chess Tour 2022 will return next month with a line-up of the world’s top juniors. The all-star junior chess section of the Tour will include two events and a final four. The Julius Baer Challenge (September 3 to 4) will be followed by the Magnus Academy Challenge (October 8 to 9) before the overall winner is crowned at the Challengers Final Four on October 29 and 30.

Grandmasters Praggnanandhaa and Rinat Jumabayev lead the 2022 edition of Dubai Open with perfect 4,0/4 score.

Valeriy Grinev is the winner of the 31st Independence Cup 2022 – 3rd Memorial Sergiy Shystariov. The event took place in Kyiv this 27-28 August. A total of 96 players participated in the event, among which 6 GMs, 6 IMs, 3 FMs, and 1 WFM. A total of seven players finished with 7,0/9, with IM Grinev taking the gold on tiebreak. The silver is for GM Spartak Vysochin, the bronze for IM Viktor Skliarov. In the seven way tie are also the tournament director GM Vadim Malakhatko, the untitled Bogdan Nikitin, IM Sergey Pavlov, and GM Alexey Kislinsky.

He has multiple interactions with the club, including the time when he celebrated his 23rd birthday with 68,000 people at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium as he took a ceremonial kick-off in the La Liga match between Real Madrid and Valladolid.

After nine played rounds at the European Women’s Chess Championship 2022, GM Monika Socko (POL, 2423) is the sole leader of the event with score of 7.5 points.

Monika Socko (POL, 2423) drew in the ninth round against WGM Fataliyeva Ulviyya (AZE, 2413) to maintain the sole leadership with only two rounds to go.
