The fourth round of the 2022 Chess Olympiad saw many upsets. One of them was Norway drawing against Mongolia as the match finished with the result of 2-2. However, the Mongolian team had a victory in the pocket as it turned out that Aryan Tari incorrectly claimed a threefold repetition against Bayarsaikhan Gundavaa.

Only two teams remain perfect at the 2022 Chess Olympiad in Chennai. India 2 and Armenia share the top with 10/10 match points, while Uzbekistan, India, USA, Cuba and Iran follow with 9 match points. Inal Sheripov has withdrawn from the FIDE presidential election due to health reasons. The news was announced in Twitter by Peter Heine Nielsen. Back in May, Inal Sheripov  announced his intention to run for FIDE President. His ticket has already been officially submitted to the FIDE office, with supporting letters from the federations of Ukraine, Zambia, Sierra-Leone, Barbados, and Timor Leste.

Without a doubt, the star of the day was India’s team B first board, 16-year-old Gukesh D. Not only did he win his fifth game in a row, defeating Spanish legend Alexei Shirov, but he also overtook Vidit on the live rating list, becoming India’s number three player with the live-rating of 2714.

An interesting situation appeared today in the fifth round of Chess Olympiad 2022 in the game between GM Anish Giri and GM Eric Hansen. Hansen played the move and the clock added him 30 minutes, showing that he has 30 minutes and 28 seconds left for the end of the game after the move 40. However, the arbiter intervened explaining that GM Eric Hansen has flagged before he made the 40th move.

16-year-old Dommaraju Gukesh played brilliantly to defeat former World Championship Challenger Alexei Shirov even as his India Team B shocked fourth seed Spain with a 2.5-1.5 score at the ongoing 44th Chess Olympiad being played at Mamallapuram, Chennai. Replay the match here

After five played rounds at the 2022 Chess Olympiad only two teams emerged on the top with the perfect score of 10 match points – India2 and Armenia.
