Magnus Carlsen playing Round 2 in Chennai Chess Olympiad

The 16th World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen (who will not defend the World Champion title next year) arrived in Chennai enjoying the grand reception. He used Friday afternoon to play some football and rest from the trip, and also visited the town where he won the World Championship for the first time.

Interview with GM Jon Ludvig Hammer – Chess Olympiad 2022 R1

The 2022 Chess Olympiad kicked off today in Chennai, India. All the favorites won their matches of the first round, including the third seed Norway. GM Jon Ludvig Hammer played the second board for the Norwegian team, as the reigning World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen wasn’t in the Round 1 teams’ composition. Norway played against Lebanon, winning the match with a convincing 3.5-0.5 result.

Levon Aronian saves the losing position against Angola’s IM David Silva

Levon Aronian debuts for the USA National team at the 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India. The USA Team met lower-rated Angola in the first round and Levon was playing the first board against IM David Silva (2315). The game didn’t start well for Aronian, and he faced serious trouble after 25…Nf6?! Having a clear exchange down, Levon offered a draw and IM David Silva accepted.
