China’s former child prodigy Wei Yi has reached his first Meltwater Champions Chess Tour final after knocking Richard Rapport out of the FTX Road to Miami. The 23-year-old will face top seed Levon Aronian, a Tour winner in the Goldmoney Asian Rapid last season, in a two-set match over the weekend.

The 49th edition of the International Dortmund Chess Festival commences tomorrow at the Congress Centre of the Westfalenhallen Dortmund. The festival features No-Castling World Masters 2022, German Grand Prix 2022, Sparkassen Chess Trophy Open tournaments (A and B), and No-castling online events.

The 27th edition of the annual Bradley Chess Open will take place from 15-17 July at Sheraton Hartford Hotel at Bradley Airport, Windsor Locks, Connecticut. The event will be played in 5 sections: Major (for players rated 1900+), Under 2100, Under 1800, Under 1500 and Under 1200, with a guaranteed prize fund of 15.000$.

The big guns struck back in the FTX Road to Miami today as the tournament’s established stars overcame the youngsters. Levon Aronian, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Wei Yi and Richard Rapport all clinched semi-final places in the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event.

It meant heartbreak for the young Americans Jeffery Xiong and Sam Sevian while India’s teen sensation Arjun Erigaisi also went out along with the more established Anish Giri.
