The eighth round of the 16th Delhi GM Open was destined to be a cracker of a contest. There were two players tied in the lead with 6.5/7 — Double Indian champion GM Karthikeyan Murali, rated 2580, and the top seed GM Arkadij Naiditsch of Azerbaijan rated 2701. Furthermore, there were 15 players tied just behind them at 5.5/7.

fritz 16The new entrant in the TCEC competition Fritz 16 has won division 3 of the competition. It finished with 18,5/28, a full point ahead of Laser 1.5. Fritz won 10 games and drew 17 games, losing only one along the way – against the bronze medalist of the division Nemorino.

The 80th edition of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament has started today. The jubilee event has a strong field of participants, which should yield exciting and surprising matches.

The only two grandmasters ever to win the tournament five times, world champion Carlsen and his predecessor Anand, are both participating. The latter has just won the world rapid championship. The world’s strongest female grandmaster, Hou Yifan returns to Wijk aan Zee this year.

Ziaur Rahman takes lead in Delhi GM Tournament

24th seed GM Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh defeated Vietnamese GM Tran Tuan Minh to emerge as the new sole leader after the end of the fourth round of 16th Delhi International Chess tournament now underway here.

At the end of three rounds, eleven players were tied at 3.0/3. Rahman showed immense discipline and skill to beat Tran Tuan.
