FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Luang Prabang, Laos

From 12 to 15 February 2015 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Luang Prabang, Laos, by the National Chess Federation of Laos, in cooperation with the Asian Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA Casto Abundo (PHI), Asian Chess Federation Executive Director and FIDE Lecturer, and Assistant Lecturer was John Vilavane, Gen. Secretary of National Chess Federation of Laos.

The lectures were in the English language.

A chess school by one of the world’s leading Grandmasters, Sergey Karjakin, was inaugurated at the ceremony in the conference hall of the Faculty of Law of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU).

Zaibi and Mezioud winners of FIDE Zone 4.1 Championships

The Tunisian Chess Federation hosted the 2015 FIDE Zone 4.1 Individual Chess Championships from 25th March to 1st April in Hammamet, Tunisia.

28 players of 4 countries gathered for the event held under the auspices of the African Chess Confederation (ACC).

Nakamura vs Robson, an amazing mate (video)

This is a video of GM Davorin Kuljasevic, where he previews the Nakamura – Robson game in the US Chess Championship. He makes detailed analysis of one of the emblematic encounters between the two players. The game is a Sicilian Dragon with rare g4. Robson misses a forced draw being an exchange down, and the game ends with a beautiful checkmate combination.

FM Saeed Ishaq shocks another grandmaster at Dubai Open Chess Championship

Fide Maser (FM) Saeed Ishaq returned to his giant-killing ways after the Dubai stalwart felled Serbian Grandmaster (GM) Milos Perunovic in Wednesday’s third round of the 17th Dubai Open Chess Championship – Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cup at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club. Ishaq won a pawn in a complicated middlegame and then nursed his advantage through to a rook-and-pawns endgame to seal the victory and post his second point.

International Chess Festival 2nd “OPEN IASI” 2015

IasiThe International Chess Festival 2nd “OPEN IASI” is scheduled to take place in Iasi, Romania, from 29th May to 6th June, 2015.

The venue of play is Polyvalent Hall and the tempo of play in Open A and Open B is 90′ + 30″.

The festival will have three sections with total prize fund 23,000 € and will be valid for FIDE rating and norms.

Ziaur Rahman Wins FIDE Zone 3.2 Chess Championship

Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh won the FIDE Zone 3.2 Chess Championship that concluded at Nepal earlier this month. Bangladesh players dominated this event and took all the top four places.

Ziaur Rahman started with a draw and ended with two draws to win the six middle rounds. He totaled 7½/9 to win by a wide one point margin.
