Sevilla Open 2016

The 41st International Open Ciudad de Sevilla is set to take place from 8-16th January at the FIBES-Palacio de Congresos y exposiciones in Seville, Spain.

The tournament is organized by the Federacion Sevillana de Ajedrez with support from Aytuntamiento de Sevilla – I.M. Deportes, Diputación de Sevilla and Turismo y Deporte Junta de Andalucía.

The playing format is 9-round Swiss. 227 participants from 20 countries are competing, including 12 Grandmasters and 7 International Masters.

Boston Chess Congress 2016

The 4th Annual Boston Chess Congress will be held from January 8-10, 2016, at the Hyatt Boston Harbor at Logan Airport, 101 Harborside Dr, Boston, Massachusetts.

The event has 6 sections: Premier (open to 1900/above), Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500 and Under 1300. Each section has either a 3-day schedule (January 8-10) or 2-day schedule (January 9-10) to participate in.

The event has a $12,000 prize fund, based on 220 paid entries, with $8,000 minimum guaranteed.

6th Andranik Margaryan Memorial 2016 LIVE!

The 6th Andranik Margaryan Memorial is organized by the Chess Academy of Armenia from 8th to 16th January, 2016, in Armenian capital Yerevan.

The event is a 10-player single round-robin tournament, valid for GM norms.

25th Keres Memorial ACP Open Day 1

The first day of the 25th Keres Memorial has concluded. In addition to the main rapid tournament, there were various other organized events that celebrated the anniversary of Paul Keres’ birth – a new coin and a new stamp, several presentations and speeches in memory of the great chess mind, set to live classical music.

Nils Grandelius victorious in his duel against Samuel Sevian

Sweden’s best chess player Nils Grandelius challenged USA’s super talent Sam Sevian in a 2-game rapid duel with time control 15′ + 10″. The event took place on January 5, 2016, at 8.30 PM CET, in Swedish capital Stockholm.
