GM Vitaly Kunin convincing in Nantes Open

The 12th International Nantes Open was held on 27-30th December 2013 at the Salle Municipale Egalite in Nantes, France.

87 players competed in the 7-round Swiss event with the classical time control.

German Grandmaster Vitaly Kunin convincingly won the tournament with 6,5/7 points, leaving the nearest followers a full point behind.

2nd Winter Sea Deluxe Open Started

The 2nd Winter Sea Deluxe Open is taking place on 2-6th January at the Hotel Michelacci in Gabicce Mare, Italy, next to the Adriatic Sea.

The tournament is organized by the Fano Chess Club and Dario Pedini.

A total of 126 players are competing in three sections: Open A for those rated above 1900, Open B for the U2000 participants, Open C for U1600 and Juniors U16 (born after 1.1.1997).

25th International CEG Rapid Tournament

Club d’Echecs de Genève (CEG) is organizing the 25th International Rapid Chess Tournament on 19th January at the Swissôtel Métropole in Geneva, Switzerland.

The tournament format will be 7-round Swiss with the time control 15 min + 3 sec.

The prize fund of CHF 5000 will be distributed to 10 regular and 15 special prizes.
Top prizes are CHF 1000 / 800 / 600 / 400 / 300 / 200 etc

XXV Abierto Internacional de Roquetas de Mar

The 25th International Open Roquetas de Mar is taking place on 2-6th January at the Hotel Bahia Serena in Roquetas de Mar, Almeria, Spain.

The event consists of the 9-round General Open with 133 participants and the 7-round U2150 Open with 93 participants.

Dusan Popovic clear first in Donau Open

Grandmaster Dusan Popovic emerged winner of the 22nd Donau Open that was held on 26-31st December in Aschach an der Donau, Austria.

Popovic defeated WGM Zhansaya Abdumalik in the last round to take a clear first place and the top prize of 1700 EUR. Meanwhile GM Jan Krejci could not make more than a draw against IM Andreas Diermair, finishing on the shared second place.

Gurgaon International Chess Tournament Begins

The 2nd edition of prestigious Gurgaon International Grandmasters Chess Tournament organized by The Haryana Chess Association and District Chess Association of Gurgaon under the aegis of All India Chess Federation and FIDE got off to a rousing start here at Suncity World School on Wednesday.

A total number of 252 players from 10 countries which include 13 Grandmasters, 11 International Masters and 205 International rated chess players are participating in this 10 rounds Swiss System tournament.

SBI Life Mega Simultaneous Chess Display by Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte

Indian Chess School is attempting to create a new national record of most number of games by a player in a simultaneous chess display when the former Indian National & British Open Champion, Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte would be playing against 151 players on 05th January, 2013 at MCF Sports Complex, Gymkhana Road, Borivali (West), Mumbai.

According to the chess historian and statistician, Shri Vijay Pandit, the current record of the most number games stands in the name of Dhyani Dave of Ahmedabad when she played against 150 players on 27 August 2012.

India National Premier Chess Championship – Arbiter Report

The most prestigious 51st National Premier Chess Championship, organised by Jain Sports Academy and Jalgoan District Chess Association and sponsored by Bhavarlal Kantabai Multipurpose Foundation was held at Jalgoan from 16th to 30th December 2013.

For the first time after several years, the Championship was played under 14-players round robin format, comprising top four rated players of India, defending champion and nine players from the qualifying event National Challengers, held earlier.

Gurgaon Open 2014 – Participants

Two back-to-back international open chess tournaments will start the year 2014 in India. The 2nd Gurgaon Open and the 12th Delhi Open will be held between 1st and 16th January in the Indian capital and nearby Gurgaon (20km distance).

The 2nd Gurgaon International Open Chess Tournament will take place on 1-8th January, 2014, at the Suncity School, Suncity Township, Sector 54, in Gurgaon.
