Krishnan Sasikiran is Champion of India

Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran became the new Champion of India after winning the Bhavarlal and Kantabai Jain 51st National Premier Chess Championship that was held on 17-30th December in Jalgoan.

Sasikiran concluded the tournament in style, by defeating IM Shyam Nikil for the total score of 10,5/13 points.

Dusan Popovic clear first in Donau Open

Grandmaster Dusan Popovic emerged winner of the 22nd Donau Open that was held on 26-31st December in Aschach an der Donau, Austria.

Popovic defeated WGM Zhansaya Abdumalik in the last round to take a clear first place and the top prize of 1700 EUR. Meanwhile GM Jan Krejci could not make more than a draw against IM Andreas Diermair, finishing on the shared second place.

Eight-way tie for first place in North American Open in Las Vegas

The 23rd Annual North American Open was held on 26-30th December at Bally’s Casino Resort, 3645 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event had 7 sections: Open, Under 2300, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500 and Under 1250.

The Open Section was a 9-round Swiss event with 78 participants held over 5-days (December 26-30).

Radoslaw Wojtaszek grabs the trophy in Zurich Christmas Open

The 37th Zurich Christmas Open took place on 26-30th December at the Crowne Plaza Zürich in Zurich, Switzerland.

The 7-round Master Tournament, for players rated over 2000, had 118 participants. Polish Grandmaster Radoslaw Wojtaszek took a clear first place with 6,0/7 points to claim the top prize of CHF 5000.

Vitoux and Kudrin share first place in Empire City Open

The 32nd Annual Empire City Open was held on December 27-29, 2013, at the New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Ave at 34th St, across from Penn Station, New York.

The event had 5 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 1900, Under 1600 and Under 1300. The playing format was 6 round Swiss, 40/110, SD/30, d10 (2-day option, rds 1-3 G/40, d10).

Adam Horvath winner in Vandoeuvre International Open

The 10th Vandoeuvre International Open took place on 26-30th December at the Parc des sports, rue de Gembloux à Vandoeuvre, in Nancy, France.

The event consisted of three playing groups – Open A (for players rated over 1900, valid for title norms), Open B (U2000) and Open C (U1500).

The Open A had 49 participants, including nine Grandmasters. Hungarian GM Adam Horvath took a clear first place with 7,0/9 points to claim the top prize of 1500 EUR.

Sankarsha Shelke Triumphs in ICS FIDE Rating Chess Tournament

10-year old Sankarsha Shelke from Vidyadham Prashala School from Shirur won the ICS 1st Maharashtra Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament for U-15 School Children with a score of 8/9 points.

In this 327 player’s tourney, which concluded today here at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. Sankarsha Shelke became richer by Rs,25000 and the prestigious B.M. Zaveri Memorial Trophy.

Dr Adrian Siegel joins Kirsan Ilyumzhinov’s ticket

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is delighted to announce that Professor Dr. Adrian Siegel, the President of the Swiss Chess Federation, has accepted his invitation to be Treasurer on his ticket in the forthcoming FIDE elections.

Ilyumzhinov is honoured that one of the most important European chess federations is willing to work together with him for the future of chess.
