Vandoeuvre Open 2013

The 10th Vandoeuvre International Open will take place on 26-30th December at the Parc des sports, rue de Gembloux à Vandoeuvre, in Nancy, France.

The event will consist of three playing groups – Open A (for players rated over 1900, valid for title norms), Open B (U2000) and Open C (U1500).

Open A and Open B will be played over nine rounds of Swiss system, while Open C will be completed over 5 double rounds on 28-30th December.

Rafael Leitao is new champion of Brazil

Grandmaster Rafael Leitao convincingly won the 80th Campeonato Brasileiro Absoluto that was held from 13th to 21st December at the Hotel Cabo Branco Atlantic in João Pessoa, capital of Paraíba state.

Leitao collected 9,5 points from eleven games, leaving the nearest followers point and a half behind, to claim his 6th title of the Brazilian chess champion.

Kiril Georgiev tops the Padova Open

The Padova Chess Club organized the 16th International Open City of Padova on 15-22nd December.

The event consisted o three tournaments:
- Torneo Internazionale was a 9-round Swiss for the players rated 1800 and higher
- Open Weekend was a 6-round Swiss without elo restrictions held on 14-15th and 21-22nd December
- Torneo Weekend was a 6-round Swiss for the players rated under 2000 held on 14-15th and 21-22nd December

Böblinger Open 2013

Hotel MercureThe 30th International Böblinger Open is scheduled to take place on 26-30th December at Hotel Mercure, Otto-Lilienthal-Str. 18, 71034 Böblingen, Germany. The tournament is organized by the SC Böblingen 1975 e.V.

GM Dusan Popovic clear first in Vodovod Rapid

The Chess Club Vodovod held its traditional rapid chess tournament on 22nd December at Dom Penzionera in Kragujevac, Serbia.

The tournament format was 9-round Swiss with time control 15 minutes per player. The tournament had 145 participants.

Grandmaster Dusan Popovic from Novi Sad emerged clear winner after concluding the tournament with 7,5/9 points.

The total prize fund was 1600 EUR.

GM Axel Bachmann convincing winner of Copa Norberto La Porta

Grandmaster Axel Bachmann from Paraguay convincingly won the “Copa Norberto La Porta” open tournament which was held on 14-21st December at the Salon Dorado de la Legislatura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Bachmann concluded the event with 8,0/9 points leaving the chasing pack a full point behind. Twelve players shared the second place with 7,0 points each.

GM Daniel Alsina Winner of Magistral Elgoibar

Grandmaster Daniel Alsina Leal emerged winner of the Magistral Elgoibar round robin tournament after defeating the legendary GM Oleg Romanishin with black pieces in the last 9th round.
