World Youth Chess Championships 2013 – Winners

The 2013 World Youth Chess Championships were held on 17-29th December in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

The event was organized by the UAE Chess Federation and Al Ain Chess Club, under the auspices of FIDE. A total of 1773 players from 121 countries competed.

India and China and boasting three gold medals each, but the Indian players also bagged two silver and three bronze medals.

89th Hastings International Chess Congress

The 89th Hastings International Chess Congress is taking place from 28th December 2013 to 5th January 2014. The Congress is sponsored by the Hastings Borough Council.

The main event is the Masters Tournament with 94 participants from 24 federations. The Masters will be completed over nine rounds of Swiss system with accelerated pairings. Prizes: £2000, £1200, £750, £500, £350, £250, £200.

Abhijeet Gupta first in Al Ain Chess Classic

The Al Ain Chess Classic was held on 19-28th December at the UAE University in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

The tournament was played concurrently with the World Youth Chess Championships 2013 and in two sections – Open A and Open B (U2000).

The Open A had 99 participants from 31 countries, including 38 Grandmasters and 28 International Masters.

PanAm Chess 2013 LIVE!

Texas Tech hosts for the very first time the premier college championship in North America, the Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship, from December 27-30. “The Panams” are open to all post-secondary schools in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

The top four qualifying schools from the PanAms go on to compete in the Final Four of college chess, held in the spring. The winner is considered national champion and takes home the President’s Cup.

Lalith Babu leading in Indian Premier Chess Championship

A rest day after the sixth round had changed the entire status of the Bhavarlal Khantabai Jain Multipurpose Foundation 51st Indian Premier Chess Championship, being held at Jain Hills, Jalgoan.

With both co-leaders GM Sasikiran Krishnan and GM Lalith Babu (both from Petroleum Sports Board) losing one game each in either eighth or ninth round, things turned topsy turvy.

Moscow Open 2014

The 10th Moscow Open Chess Festival is set to take place from 31st January to 9th February, 2014, at the Russian State Social University.

ICS Maharashtra Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament

The cream of 350+ young chess talents across Maharashtra, including 110 FIDE rated players will be seen in action in Indian Chess School’s 1st Maharashtra Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament for Under-15 School to be held at Don Bosco High School, Matunga from 26-30 December, 2013.

The tournament is being conducted by Indian Chess School under the aegis of Bombay Chess Association, Maharashtra Chess Association and the All India Chess Federation. The performance of the players would be taken into account by FIDE (World Chess Federation) to determine their FIDE Ratings.

Moscow Championship Superfinal

Moscow Championship SuperfinalThe Moscow Chess Federation is holding its first Superfinal Championship on 30-31st January, 2014, at the Russian State Social University.
