Oskemen Chess Open 2024 is going to be held from October 2 to October 10 in Oskemen, Kazakhstan. The tournament is organized by the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and will be a 10 rounds Swiss event. The top rated players are GMs Manuel Petrosyan, Xiangyu Xu, Aram Hakobyan, Bardia Daneshvar, S.P. Sethuraman, Jakhongir Vakhidov, Jinshi Bai, Timur Gareyev, Denis Makhnev and Kazybek Nogerbek.

The Spanish Senior Chess Championship aka Campeonato de España Veteranos 2024 is going to be held from October 5 to October 13 in Roquetas del Mar, Almeria, Spain. The tournament is going to be 9-rounds Round Robin. Top players will include IMs Josep Anton Lacasa Diaz, Jose Candela Perez, Javier Aguera Nareda, Luis Maria Campos Gambuti, Diego Guerra Bastido and Victor Manuel Vehi Bach. A sad news for chess – GM Zenon Franco Ocampos passed away in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, at the age of 68. He was a strong chess player, a motor for chess in his country Paraguay, renowned book author, a FIDE Senior trainer. In the 1982 Chess Olympiad at Lucerne, he won the gold medal at board one by scoring 11 of 13. In the 1990 Chess Olympiad at Novi Sad, he shared first place at board one with 9 points in 12 games.

The strongest chess event ever held in the UK – The Tech Mahindra Global Chess League is taking place 3-12 October in London and features Magnus Carlsen,  Hikaru Nakamura, Vishy Anand, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Anish Giri, and Ian Nepomniachtchi along with 30 other world-class players including the best female and junior players in the world.

Konstantin Kavutsky has just finished his European adventure. After getting the silver at the Grand Hotel Adriatico, IM Kavutsky visited the Chess Olympiad in Budapest. Now he is back to regular schedule, firmly on the road to GM and concentrated on building the ultimate chess dashboard at ChessDojo

The World Rapid and Blitz 2024 has been widely criticized for the dates chosen and the additional cost burden on the participants. Now Hikaru Nakamura adds to the problems – he says that FIDE is changing the format, “so that they ensure somebody like Magnus Carlsen or myself is in the finals, and potentially winning the tournament”

Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus is the youngest player to cross 2600 ELO. He achieved this during the Chess Olympiad 2024 playing for the team of Turkiye and finishing 15th there with performance 2636. The exact date when Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus crossed 2600 is 21.09.2024, when he defeated Kacper Piorun.

Leela Chess Zero is the winner of the TCEC Swiss 7, the first event of the Top Chess Engine Championship season. Leela Chess Zero entered as defending Swiss champion finished a point ahead of Stockfish 17 and two points ahead of bronze medalist Ceres in the event dubbed as the strongest in computer chess history.

The teams of India won double gold at the Chess Olympiad 2024. The open team – Arjun Erigaisi, Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, and Pentala Harikrishna – were captained by Srinath Narayanan.
