Abigail Karyah is on a perfect 7/7 in the Chess Olympiad 2024. 16 year old Abigail Karyah, playing for Liberia, has gained 112 ELO points so far and has earned (at least) the Candidate Master title.

Abigail Karyah is also aiming at the board medal. Currently with 2457 TPR, she is right behind IM Deshmukh Divya, WIM Xeniya Balabayeva, and GM Elina Danielian.

India dominate when they can, squeeze wins when they need – Chess Olympiad 2024 R7

India continues to dominate both Open and Women sections of the Chess Olympiad 2024.

In the Open section of the Olympiad, India defeated China 2,5-1,5 with a key victory by World Chess Championship 2024 challenger Gukesh. India is with perfect 14 MP score, one point more than Iran, as the two teams are set to meet in a direct clash next round.

FIDE Council rejects Kyrgyz proposal

Susan Polgar: Due to flooding, some hotels at the Chess Olympiad 2024 had to be changed

Susan Polgar, one of the main faces of the Chess Olympiad 2024, reports that the heavy flooding that hit Budapest now affects the Chess Olympiad itself. “Oh no! My hometown Budapest is flooding! The streets by the Danube river are completely flooded. I was told that some teams had to change hotels due to “Force Majeure”, ” says Susan Polgar.

Nodirbek Abdusattorov celebrates 20th birthday during round 7 of the Chess Olympiad 2024

Nodirbek Abdusattorov is Uzbekistan’s highest-rated Grandmaster and one of the strongest players in the world. A chess prodigy, he earned his Grandmaster title at the age of 13 years, 1 month, and 11 days.

Now, as a leader of team Uzbekistan during the Chess Olympiad 2024, Nodirbek Abdusattorov will celebrate his 20th birthday at the chess board. You can follow his live games here

Eman Sawan is perfect after 5 rounds at the Chess Olympiad 2024

16-year-old Eman Sawan is currently 5/5 on Palestine’s board 1. Her Gofundme page raised $3500. “We lost many of our family and friends in Gaza. Many times I almost lost my faith in myself and my dreams, but my passion for the game and my mother’s support is what drives me.”

Bermuda party at the Chess Olympiad 2024

The legendary Bermuda party took place the night before the rest day at the Chess Olympiad 2024. Chessbase India sums up the beauty of the party, “As I stood there on the dance floor, grooving to the music I looked around myself – there were players from different countries, some unrated, some below 2000, some grandmasters, some absolute elite players. All of them on the dance floor. All of them having an absolutely wonderful time with each other.

FIDE Congress – national federations at risk of losing government funding

Regular chess players seldom realize how important local government funding is for chess, federations, and the sport on national level. One of the important decisions at the upcoming FIDE Congress during the Chess Olympiad 2024 is the resolution by the Kyrgyzstan Chess Federation to restore the full membership rights of the Russian Chess Federation, which in its essence puts the national federations at risk of losing government funding.
