FIDE World School Chess Champions 2022 crowned in Panama

The FIDE World School Chess Championship 2022 took place from June 10-19, 2022, at the Wyndham Panama Albrook Mall Hotel & Convention Center, Panama City, under the auspices of FIDE and the Panama Chess Federation.

After 9 played rounds in 6 age categories (U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 open and girls sections) and the Winners are: (scroll down for final rankings of each section)

Kazakhstan Women’s National Team meets with the President of Kazakhstan

The Women’s National Team and the representatives of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation met with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 starts on 28th July in Chennai, and Kazakhstan Women’s Team will compete with the following composition:

Chess Olympiad Torch Relay – Schedule & Map

The first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay took place on the 19th of June at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi lit the Flame and handed it over to 15th World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand. The Torch will travel through the country to 75 cities, celebrating the 75th Year of the country’s Independence and India’s 1st ever Chess Olympiad.

Artyom Bogdanov from Kazakhstan won the ChessKid Intercontinental Candidates Tournament which took place in Madrid, Spain — in the stunning setting of the Palacio de Santoña.

Ding Liren reveals the Chinese Team will not play in the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022

Ding Liren is currently playing the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 in Madrid. In the post-game interview with WGM Dina Belenkaya, he disclosed the Chinese Team will not compete in the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 which takes place in Chennai from 28th July – 10th August. Being asked if he is going to the Olympiad, Liren answered: “No, I think Chinese team will not play“.

The 2022 Collision Conference takes place from 20-23 June at Enercare Centre Toronto, bringing together 35,000+ people and companies redefining the tech industry. One of the speakers of the 2022 Collision Conference was chess legend and Avast Security Ambassador GM Garry Kasparov, who together with FT editor Gillian Tett and cybersecurity expert Ondrej Vicek analyzed how the war in Ukraine changed the World. The audience seemed receptive to the analysis but was equally interested in the simultaneous exhibition Kasparov played against the attendees.

Nigel Short: FIDE gave a grant to dishonest and derated chess event

Nigel Short two days ago announced his resignation as FIDE Vice-President with immediate effect after 4-years long service in the Arkadij Dvorkovich administration. Short’s resignation came while he is playing the FIDE World Senior Team Chess Championship in Acqui Terme, and shortly after a decision by the FIDE Ethics Commission which included the case involving a trip to the US Virgin Islands, where there were two rival organisations claiming to be the legitimate federation.
