Kenyan candidate master Ben Magana won the 2022 Kisumu Chess Open which took place last weekend, from 4-5 June in Kisumu – Kenya’s third-largest city. The event was played in 6 swiss rounds and attracted more than 60 entries who fought for a total prize fund of 60.000 KES.

The Malawi Chess Open Championship 2022 took place from 9-12 June in Lilongwe. The event was played in 9 swiss rounds in the Open section, and 7 swiss rounds in the Women’s section.

Montenegro gets a new Grandmaster after 17 years

The 2021 Montenegrin Chess Champion Luka Draskovic yesterday earned the last needed norm to become a Grandmaster. He competed in the Grandmasters tournament in Cetinje, a part of the Montenegro Chess Festival, scoring unbeaten 6.5 points (4 victories and 5 draws) to win the third GM norm. Luka Draskovic is the 8th player in the country to have the most prestigious chess title.

The NYT was founded in 1851, initially published by Raymond, Jones & Company, and today has a worldwide readership. The New York Times published the extensive article “Meet The Times’s New Chess Columnist” and announced the news on the official twitter account.

Federico Perez Ponsa is 2022 Argentine Chess Champion

The 96th edition of the Argentine National Chess Championship took place from 2-12 June, 2022 in Club Argentino de Ajedrez located in Buenos Aires. The event was organized by the Chess Federation of Argentina which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary. Before the start of the National Championship, Argentine Chess Federation announced team compositions for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad 2022.
