The 23rd International Chess Festival “Liepajas Rokade 2016″ was held from 4-7th August at the Hotel Fontaine Royal in Liepaja, Latvia.

The Festival consisted of Open Rapid, Blitz, Team and Super Rapid tournaments.

The 9th Arad International Chess Festival is taking place from 6-12th August in Continental Hotel in Arad, Romania.

The Festival consists of Railway Bank – Astra Open with 247 participants, U10 Open, U8 Open and a number of side events: FIDE rated Blitz tournament, Fischer Random tournament, bughouse and blitz pairs tournaments, tennis-table tournament.

The Festival is organized by IO Alin Campeanu & ACS Sah Club Vados. The total prize fund is 9000 EUR.

TCEC – the Top Chess Engine Championship – continues its search for the strongest computer chess software in the world. Stockfish and Komodo are the two main favorites. The battle is on many levels – highest ELO, best tactics, commercial vs open source, number of TCEC medals, history vs future, and so much more.

Vilissingen Cup 2016 is taking place 6-13 August. Top participants are GM Krishnan Sasikiran, GM Loek Van Wely, GM Mykhaylo Oleksiyenko, GM Jorden Van Foreest, GM Konstantin Landa, GM Alberto David, etc.

The first event was Open Rapid which run on 4-5th August through 13 rounds with the time control 15 min + 5 sec.

Michael Adams, the long-time highest rated English player on the FIDE rating list, has won the British Chess Championships 2016 in Bournemouth to add to his 4 previous British titles.

His score of 10/11 equalled the record set by Julian Hodgson in 1992 and, given that future championships are planned to be run over 9 rounds, this was probably the last opportunity for the record to be equalled or exceeded.

The Italian National U16 Youth Championship was held in Olbia from June 25th to July 2nd. The Championship was organized by Accademia Internazionale di Scacchi.

697 young players from all over Italy came to the Geovillage Sport and Resort in Sardinia to participate to one of the biggest editions ever.
