RSSU Chess Cup Moscow Open 2017

The 13th International RSSU Chess Cup Moscow Open 2017 is set to take place from 26th January to 6th February at the Russian State Social University in Moscow, Russia.

Liberty Bell Open 2017

The 49th Annual Liberty Bell Open was held over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 13-16, 2017, at the Sonesta Hotel, 1800 Market St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The event had six sections: Open, U2100, U1900, U1700, U1500 and U1250. The playing format was 7-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10.

The Open section gathered 58 participants. Grandmasters Sergey Erenburg and Alexander Shabalov shared the first place with 5,5/7 points each.

President of Moldova visits Central Chess Club in Moscow

During the official visit to Russia, Igor Dodon, President of Moldova, visited the Central House of Chess Player and RCF Chess Museum.

The delegation from Moldova also included Dumitru Bragis, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Andrei Neguta, Deputy of Moldovan Parliament and Member of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Commission, Irina Vlah, Head of Gagauzia, Vasile Sova, President’s Adviser on reintegration issues, and other officials.

GM Andrey Baryshpolets claims the Golden State Open

The 8th Annual Golden State Open was held over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 13-16, 2017, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 45 John Glenn Dr, Concord, California.

The event had five sections: Open, U2100, U1800, U1500 and U1200. The playing format was 7-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10.

In the Open section with 62 participants the Ukrainian Grandmaster Andrey Baryshpolets emerged clear winner with 6/7 points to earn $3100.

GM Alexander Ivanov winner of Boston Chess Congress

The 5th Annual Boston Chess Congress was held from 6-8th January at the Hyatt Boston Harbor – Logan Airport, 101 Harborside Dr, Boston MA.

The event had six sections: Premier, U2100, U1900, U1700, U1500 and U1250. The playing format was 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10.

In the Premier section with 38 participants GM Alexander Ivanov took a clear first place with 4,5/5 points.

Ernesto Inarkiev to play in FIDE Grand Prix

The Memorandum on Cooperation was signed by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Alikhan Kharsiev, Russian State Duma Deputy and founder of Adi-Ahmad Sports Club (Troitskoe village, Republic of Ingushetia) on Monday, January 16 in the RCF Chess Museum.

European Youth Team Chess Championship 2017

The European Youth Team Chess Championship 2017 will be held from 16th to 24th August in Rymanów Zdrój, Poland, at the PST “Stomil” Rymanów Zdrój, which is the official venue of the tournament.

The organizers of the Championships are PST “Stomil” Rymanów Zdrój and Polish Chess Federation, under the auspices of the European Chess Union.

26th Paul Keres Memorial

Paul KeresThe Estonian Sports Association Kalev organized the 26th Paul Keres Memorial – Dedicated to Paul Keres 101 from 14-15th January at the Original Sokos Hotel Viru in Tallinn, Estonia.

The 11-round Swiss event with 102 participants was played with the rapid time control 15′+5”.

Farrukh Amonatov claims Delhi Open

Top seeded Grandmaster Farrukh Amonatov from Tajikistan emerged clear winner of the 15th Delhi International Open after completing the event with 8,5/10 points.

Local GM Ghosh Diptayan and GM Marat Dzhumaev from Uzbekistan shared the second place with 8 points each.

The 15th Delhi International Open was organized by Delhi Chess Association and took place from 9-16th January at the Ludlow Castle Sports Complex Civil Lines in New Delhi, India.
