Polar Capital International Chess Tournament 2017

Jersey Chess Federation announces the Polar Capital International Chess Tournament 2017, which will take place from 1-8 April 2017 in St Clement Bay in Jersey.

The Open tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds, with time control 90 minutes for the whole game + 30 seconds increment per move.

The highest ranked players who are not already qualified will qualify for the 2017 British Championship. The first prize at the Open tournament is £1500.

ISEM GM Chess Tournaments

The İzmir Chess Training Center (ISEM) is holding two Scheveningen chess tournaments where a group of foreign Grandmasters is pitted against the local talent.

The tournaments are taking place from 8-12th March at Iyonya Hotel in Izmir, Turkey. The organizer is IO Nese Kahmazalp, tournament director is IO Enis Bilyap and chief arbiter is IA Melih Cicek.

Live games are available on the official website through FollowChess app.

March: Free group lessons by Grandmasters on Elite Chess Training

The new online teaching platform – Elite Chess Training is offering free group lessons by top trainers by the end of March.

The teachers are world top Grandmasters and FIDE Senior Trainers.

Grand Chess Tour rapid events in Paris and Leuven

The Grand Chess Tour is pleased to announce the event level wildcards for the 2017 Grand Chess Tour events in Paris and Leuven.

The GCT Advisory Board considered both the players URS™ standings as well as recent exceptional performances to finalise the selection of these 8 wildcards.

The board also considered local sponsor preferences while seeking to invite players who will bring a dynamic and exciting element to the respective tournaments in which they will be participating.

2017 FIDE Arbiters’ Commission Councilors’ Meeting

The 2017 FIDE Arbiters’ Commission Councilors’ Meeting will be held in Reykjavik, Iceland, in the period 21 to 24 April 2017.

The Icelandic Chess Federation is hosting the Meeting.

Rochefort Chess Festival 2017

The 16th Rochefort Chess Festival was held from 18h to 24th February at the Congres Palais, in Rochefort, France. The event was a big success with 222 participants, 50 more than the former record.

71 players competed in the Masters section which was reserved for the players rated above 1900. Grandmaster Kirill Stupak (Belarus) won the first place with 7,5 points.

International Women’s Day: Blondes defeat Brunettes in a friendly match

On the eve of the International Women’s Day, a traditional match between “Blondes” and “Brunettes” took place in the Moscow restaurant “Carlson”.

White Rook 2017 in Dagomys

Russian Chess Federation has the honour to invite young and ambitious players from all over the world to take part in the final stage of prestigious chess competition among secondary school teams Belaya Ladya, also known as White Rook, which will be held in Hotel Dagomys 4* (Sochi, Krasnodar Region) on June 1-9, 2017.

Belaya Ladya national school team tournament was launched in 1969 in the Soviet Union. Some of the famous Russian players started their career playing in Belaya Ladya.

Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2017

Abu Dhabi Chess Festival Committee has the honor of inviting the players to take part in a distinguished chess annual event, which consists of numerous FIDE registered tournaments. It will be held in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the UAE from 13th until 23rd of August, 2017.

Abu Dhabi Chess & Culture Club is organizing the festival under the Patronage of H.H Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sport Council.

European Corporate Chess Championship 2017

The 1st European Corporate Chess Championship 2017 will take place in the Town Hall of Honour of the City of Asnières, Paris, France, 24–25 November 2017.

The tournament will be played as a Swiss Open in 9 rounds, with time control 15 minutes per game + 3 seconds per move starting from move 1.

Each team shall be composed of 4 players + 1 substitute player. The team can’t have more than one player over 2400 ELO but should have at least one player below 2000 ELO.
