A FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized in Doha, Qatar, from 28 to 31 May 2015, by the Qatar Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Qatar National Olympic Committee and under the auspices of FIDE.

After following the games of Magnus Carlsen for a full month and his victories in Tata Steel 2015 and the dramatic Armageddon in Grenke the FIDE World Champion is taking a deserved break. His next large event is Gashimov Memorial 2015 in Shamkir in the month of April.

The Uruguay Chess Championship 2015 is taking place 6-13 March. Twelve of the best national players are competing for the highest award in Uruguayan chess. Top seeded are IM Bernardo Roselli Mailhe, FM Manuel Larrea, and FM Nicolas Lopez Azambuja

The Russian Chess Federation and ArtRusse, which aims to develop a greater understanding of Soviet and Russian art, have signed a partnership agreement.

The 2015 edition of the traditional chess tournament Reykjavik Open is going to take place March 10-18 is Harpa Conference Hall in Iceland.

A total of 285 players will participate including GM Mamedyarov, GM Navara, GM Eljanov, GM Melkumyan, GM Movsesian, GM Hammer, GM Granda, GM Gawain Jones, GM Naroditsky, GM Gupta, GM L’Ami, GM Grandelius, GM Fier, GM Cornette, GM Jussupow, GM Hansen, GM Maze, etc.

The famous Grandmaster from Iceland – Henrik Danielsen – has published his first edition of The Polar Bear System. GM Danielsen shared, “I have spent 15 years developing the Polar Bear system. Indeed I have turned every stone in the system and lost many games in doing so. Since there is no theory of importance I had to work hard. I read everything about the Dutch defense and used the ideas with reversed colors. So the theory in the book is mainly created with my own games and analysis.”

The Central Serbia Open 2015 is taking place 09-15 March in Kragujevac. A total of 56 players participate, among them 10 GMs, 5 IMs, and 7 FMs.

Russian Grandmaster Evgeniy Najer has won the 2015 European Chess Championship in the competition of 250 players from 33 countries, including 115 Grandmasters.

In the final round Najer held his compatriot GM Denis Khismatullin with black pieces to emerge clear winner on 8,5/11 points.

India and China are playing a 4-board Scheveningen Match on 1-10th March in Hyderabad.

In round 6 China won by 3-1 to extend the lead to 13,5-10,5.
