25th FIDE World Senior Championship 50+ LIVE!

The 25th FIDE World Senior Chess Championship is taking place from November 9-22, 2015, in Acqui Terme, Piemonte, Italy.

The event is an 11-round Swiss tournament with tempo of play 90′/40 moves + 30′ + 30″.

GM Predrag Nikolic (2603) from Bosna and Herzegovina heads the field of 100 players from 30 different countries.

3rd Srefidensi Chess Celebration 2015 LIVE!

The 3rd Srefidensi Chess Celebration Mater Chess Tournament is organized by the Suriname Schaakbond in honor of Independence Day of Suriname (November 25) from November 19-26, 2015, in Paramaribo, Suriname.

The Master Class tournament is a 9-round Swiss FIDE event, open to player rated 2200 Elo or above. The first prize is in the amount of U$ 3,000.

Al Ain Chess Classic 2015

The Al Ain Chess Club invites all FIDE rated players to participate in the 4th Al Ain Chess Classic from 22-31st December 2015.

The 9-round Swiss tournament will take place at the Al Ain Rotana Hili Hotel.

Top prizes are $13,000 / $10,000 / $7,000 / $4,500 / $3,000 / $2,000 etc (20 regular prizes)

There are also special prizes for women, juniors, regional players and elo sections. The total prize fund is $ 57,000.

Chess federations to hold team events on FIDE Online Arena

The FIDE Executive Board of the 86th FIDE Congress has accepted the Online Commission’s proposal to allow National Federations to organize online team events, in order to enable financially weak clubs to participate in costly league championships, especially when long distance transportation is an issue.

University of Texas at Dallas claims 10th Transatlantic Cup

The 10th Annual Svetozar Gligoric Transatlantic Cup, a traditional match between the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Belgrade, was held on 6th November from 20:00 CET on the Internet Chess Club (ICC).

Belgrade took an early lead 4-0, then had 7-4, but Dallas won the remaining five games to claim a 9-7 victory. The overall historical match score is now 5-5.

The special guest at the Belgrade venue was legendary GM Ljubomir Ljubojevic.

Chess and Society Conference in London

A small but fast growing community is using chess to improve social relations and wellbeing. The game may help to prevent dementia, it is used in prisons, and it is tested in therapies against addiction.

Most recently, activists in numerous countries showed the great potential of chess in the integration of refugees. Even school chess is no longer only about cognitive development and academic achievement but increasingly emphasises inclusion and integration.
