The Chessable British Chess Championship 2022 was held at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay from 8th to 21st August 2022. This was the 108th British Chess Championship in a series that has run almost unbroken since 1904, with Torquay having previously hosted the Championships on six occasions, most recently in 2019.

The 22nd edition of the Dubai Chess Open kicks off tomorrow at the Dubai Chess & Culture Club and will be played from 27 August – 5 September. The tournament will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control 90 minutes for the whole game + 30 seconds of increment per each move, starting from the move one.

The Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz 2022, the fourth leg of the Grand Chess Tour 2022 kicks off today. Eight tour players Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Levon Aronian, Fabiano Caruana, Alireza Firouzja, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Leinier Dominguez, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov are joined by wildcards Hikaru Nakamura, Sam Shankland and Jefferey Xiong for a rapid round robin and blitz.

After six played rounds at the European Women’s Chess Championship 2022 in Prague, Czech Republic, GM Monika Socko (POL, 2423) emerged as the sole leader of the event.

The Women Chess Conference Prague 2022 takes place from 26-27 August at Prague’s Hotel Don Giovanni, concurrently with the European Women’s Chess Championship 2022. Some of the Invited Guests and Speakers are: the ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili, the ECU Deputy President Ms. Dana Reizniece-Ozola, reigning European Women’s Chess Champion Ms. Elina Danielian.

The 28th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival concluded today in the United Arab Emirates with 18-year-old Arjun Erigaisi triumphing the Abu Dhabi Masters 2022 (Read more: Arjun Erigaisi wins Abu Dhabi Masters 2022). In the competition of 148 players from 28 countries, 21-year-old WGM Nilufar Yakubbaeva won the first women’s prize scoring 5.5/9 points.

The 4th edition of the International Chess Open San Cristobal de La Laguna 2022 will be held from 27 August to 3 September 2022 in San Cristobal de La Laguna a city in the northern part of the island of Tenerife on the Canary Islands, Spain.

The Mirandela Open 2022 took place from 17-23 August 2022 in Mirandela, Portugal, with participation of more than 130 players coming from 26 countries.

The event was played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control: 90 minutes for the whole game plus 30 seconds of an increment per each move, starting from the move one. The total prize fund of the event was 4.300 euros, with 1.000 euros reserved for the winner.

Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz 2022, the fourth leg of the Grand Chess Tour 2022, starts tomorrow. Due to the continuing US travel restrictions related to Covid19, Richard Rapport will not able to play in the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz, nor the Sinquefield Cup.
